Western Railway of Alabama - The Western Railway of Alabama (WRA) was created by the owners of the Montgomery and West Point Railroad in 1854. It was built to further the M&WP's development West from Montgomery, Alabama to Selma, Alabama.

Kentucky": On March 19, 1966, Texas Western College, now known as the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), put an all-black starting five on the floor for the first time in an NCAA basketball championship. That night the Texas Western Miners, led by coach Don Haskins with star players David Lattin and Bobby Joe Hill, defeated coach Adolph Rupp's #1 ranked all-white Kentucky Wildcats, 72-65.
